"So you only speak English?" - Theresa Bullock
“So you only speak English?” –by Theresa Bullock
So you only speak English?
Pourquoi? They ask me, of course I’m in France
My cheeks blush as I
Make some excuse about
Not reading enough books or not going on enough trips
Rolling off the basics
Seems to keep them off my back for now
Ah! Bien!
So you only speak English?
The Dutch seem more forgiving
Until they learn I have lived here for
Years rather than weeks.
But their look of disappointment
urges me on
Maar ik spreekt een beetje .
The truth is very different
I love how musical bore-da
Sounds in the morning on a camping trip to Wales
How kurwa sounds so soft
It cannot possibly mean my Polish friends are insulting each other
I watch movies with different subtitles so I know
Ezel, burro, åsna, baudet.
But I cannot string two words together.
In England that’s good going
But here, being able to order
Frikandel met frites
Just doesn’t seem to cut it.
It’s easier for me to say
Tak, I only speak English.

¡Bienvenidos!
Here is your homework for the night of September 9th:
1. Have you and your parent/guardian read and sign your Spanish 1 contract.
2. Sign up for Quizlet: quizlet.com/LaGuardiaAL. Once you have clicked the link, click on the "Classes" tab. Then sign up for "Español 1/2, 2015-2016 School Year." If you do not have an account already, create an account. You are responsible for knowing each set that is posted. Studying on Quizlet each night will help you greatly when it comes to quizzes, tests, and projects.
Once you have signed up for Quizlet and have joined my "Español 1/2" class, you will receive emails when I upload a new set. If you are feeling overambitious, you may also download the app (which I highly recommend). I promise, it's super fun!
Please sign-up for and follow this blog. Please use a valid email. I will be communicating with you through this website, and it is your responsibility to check this website daily for homework and other assignments.
3. Get proper materials for this class: binder, looseleaf, and folder. You may use a spiral notebook instead of a binder if you desire (I know these are lighter in your backpacks). Please do not use composition notebooks. If I would like to collect work, these papers do not tear well.
Your folder should ONLY be for Spanish class. I give many worksheets, and it is your responsibility to be organized. These worksheets will help you study for quizzes, tests, and the final exam. Please have these materials by Wednesday, September 16, 2015.
**You must bring these items and your textbook to class every day. **
4. Research a safety, target, and reach college/university - what are their high school foreign language requirements for admission? How many years do they recommend/require?
5. Tomorrow's assignment, which will be given in class when I am absent. The sub will be collecting the assignment at the end of class and it will be graded. Please make sure your name is on it.
Should you have any questions, please contact Ms. Laricchia at LaricchiaLAG@gmail.com. My email, class website, and Quizlet URL are all on the course contract.

¡Bienvenidos!

¡Bienvenidos a la clase de español!
In this class, we will learn the Spanish language and about different countries where Spanish is spoken.
Please take note that Quizlet is a very important website in this class. On Quizlet, you will be able to study vocabulary that will be on quizzes and tests throughout the school year. The link to Ms. Laricchia's Quizlet page is quizlet.com/LaGuardiaAL. Please click the "Classes" tab and sign up for "Español 1/2, 2015-2016 School year." If you do not have a Quizlet account, please be sure to make one. You will receive an email every time I upload a Quizlet set.
Another website that we will be using in this class is wordreference.com. Word Reference is an online dictionary that is very user-friendly. You may also find verb conjugations on Word Reference. If you want to practice verb conjugations, you may use conjuguemos.com.
And of course, this website (that you are on right now) is important as well. This will be a means to communicate with you throughout the year. I will post major projects on this website, as well as what will be on exams and finals. Please be sure to sign up/follow this website. It is your responsibility to check this website daily for information and assignments.
Please know that you may reach out to Ms. Laricchia at any time. Her email is LaricchiaLAG@gmail.com.
